I'm flyin'

I had the oppertunity this weekend to participate in the Young Eagles program. I didn't know what I was signing my kids up for when I signed the permission slip two weeks ago but it looked interesting. I thought I would take them down to see what it was all about and then if I didn't like it we would leave. I told my friend who has three kids about it as well and she called and made an apt. as well. This way I didn't have to go it alone.. We got there and I put my 11 yearolds name on the list. My ten year old kept saying he didn't want to go.
What you do is send your kid(s) ages 10 to 17 up in a plane with a pilot. One choice is the four person Cessna. The other is a two person experimental plane. My friend found out that if your child is scarred and its ok with the pilot, an adult can go up with them. That was great. I got to go up with both my boys. We took about a 20 min. flight around town. We saw the beaches, the pier and the general area around the airport. The funniest thing was on top of one building there was writing. It said "Made you look". We laughed. My oldest sat in the front with the pilot and he even got to steer and push buttons. They both said that they wanted to do it again. I beleive the purpose of the whole thing is so that they can have the worlds largest log book. But I also think that they need more interest in pilots and they are starting young ; ) I took lots of pic's. Wish I knew how to put them on here though.
